The Health Workforce Information Programme (HWIP) has been capturing and reporting Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora (formerly DHB) employed workforce demographic data since 2006. The data collected consists of 29 variables, supported by an agreed data standard and code sets. Every quarter, analysts in the 20 Districts submit workforce data for inclusion in the HWIP. Comprehensive data completeness and quality checks are run before the information is loaded into the HWIP database.

 

Information from the HWIP is used to support Health NZ employment negotiations processes, and has formed the baseline data gathering for operational information on specific workforces. 

District Employed Workforce Quarterly Reports

Workforce information reports are based on a quarterly collection of data from Districts, ie using District employed workforce information as at the end of each quarter (March, June, September and December). 

These reports provide a snapshot overview of the demographics of the District workforce, using the following occupational groupings:

  • Senior Medical Officer (SMO)
  • Resident Medical Officer (RMO)
  • Nursing
  • Midwifery
  • Allied & Scientific (the amalgamation of Allied Health and Technical and Scientific)
  • Care and Support
  • Corporate and Other.

HWIP ANZSCO Code Manual

This document has been developed in conjunction with the Coding and Classification Division at Statistics New Zealand.
