Summary:

HISO is supporting Hira to create standards for the development and consumption of Application Programme Interface (API) and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) to support interoperability of health information.

These standards provide both API Providers and API consumers with context for focused design and implementation as well as API best practices.

Current list of standards in review or under consideration:

  • Async API Standard
  • REST API Standard
  • FHIR Publication Standard
  • Async Publishing Standard


These technical standards are in active development with updates being made when required. The development of these data standards follows a streamlined standards approval process that has been agreed upon between HISO and Hira.
