HISO 10109 Gender and Sex Data Protocols
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is developing guidance on the process for collecting, accessing, sharing and use of gender and sex related information.
Having a consistent and person-centred approach to the collection and use of gender and sex information in the health context is an important step to ensure more positive and safer consumer experiences with the health system. This will support improved access to health care services and improved health outcomes.
The Gender and Sex Data Protocols will ensure alignment with key international standards, ISO/TR 9143:2023 Health Informatics – Sex and gender in electronic health records, and HL7® FHIR® Cross Paradigm Implementation Guide: Gender Harmony – Sex and Gender representation, Edition 1.
