Contact us
CEDOR is led by endocrinologist Prof. Jeremy Krebs and was established in 1998. The centre now has 10 permanent staff members with input from clinical staff from both endocrine and diabetes specialities.
The unit also supervises MSc and PhD students and offers periodic summer studentships and helps with the training of senior medical staff.

Volunteer with CEDOR
CEDOR conducts a broad range of clinical trials looking at both new medications for type 1 and type 2 diabetes as well as the effects of diet and lifestyle choices, and obesity surgery on health.
Volunteers in our trials receive close medical supervision by our experienced and friendly team of doctors and nurses. All trials have been approved by an ethics committee before they start and new medications have been tested for safety.
About trials
Trial clinic visits are held at Wellington Regional Hospital.
The length of trial, number of clinic visits and time commitment for each study is different but usually involves at least 4 clinic visits of an average of 1 hour per visit.
While study volunteers are not paid, we do contribute towards travel costs and pay for parking in the Wellington Regional Hospital underground car park.
Volunteering
We are always looking for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes to join our enthusiastic team of volunteers from around the greater Wellington area.
If you are interested in volunteering, fill out our form and we will be in touch.

Current studies
Dahlia study
This is a study to trial a dahlia extract in men with pre-diabetes and diabetes (taking metformin only) to see if it lowers blood glucose levels.
It requires 3 visits to Wellington Regional Hospital for 3 hours each time.
You may be eligible if you are:
- are diet-controlled or take metformin only for diabetes
- aged between 18 and 80
- have an HbA1c between 45 and 60.
Mosaic study
The purpose of this study is to trial a medicine that protects the kidneys in people with type 2 diabetes.
This study is expected to run for more than 3 years. You may be eligible if you have type 2 diabetes and kidney impairment.
CEDOR tissue bank
The CEDOR tissue bank stores samples of blood and other tissue for future research. This means when new ideas and therapies arise we have a store of samples we can call upon without having to get people to come in and give blood.
Our tissue bank is approved by the Health and Disability Ethics Committee and is governed by a group of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora staff. Donated samples are never used for commercial research. If you have donated a sample to the tissue bank, perhaps through a recent study, this is where you can learn more about studies happening using that donation. We use different types of blood and different populations for different studies.
After a study is done using these donated samples we usually send the results to people whose blood or tissue was used in that study. We can only send these out to the address we have on file, so if you want to have your address updated when you move, send an email to diabetesresearch@ccdhb.org.nz
If you have given a donation of blood or other tissue and change your mind, you can get that sample back or have it destroyed as you wish.
If you would like to do this, send an email to diabetesresearch@ccdhb.org.nz or call 04 806 2458 and we can facilitate this process for you.
We would like to thank everyone who gives a gift or taonga in this way. It is truly appreciated and helps us to plan research for the future of diabetes and endocrine disorders.
