The Health NZ National Library and Knowledge Service provides an national online library portal for all Health NZ employees.

The national library portal includes:

  • access to databases, journals, and ebooks
  • professional advice and support for locating information resource
  • literature searches and assistance with systematic reviews
  • document request and article interloans service.

Library Services for Primary Care

If you’re a health professional working in the community you can now access a range of high-quality information resources via a national Primary Care online library portal. You will need to register for an Open Athens account.

The portal includes evidence-based resources and point-of-care tools such as:

  • BMJ Best Practice
  • Cochrane Library
  • Proquest Health Research Premium Database Collection.

The Rotorua Hospital library provides a range of free services and resources to staff and other health professionals working in the Lakes region. You will need to register as a member of the library to use the services which include:

  • clinical book and journal loans
  • literature searches and article requests
  • free interloans from other health libraries
  • Zoom pods with headsets and cameras
  • private study or meeting room
  • out-of-hours library access.

Library hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm.

About the library

The library supports the clinical and research activities of all staff and health professionals in the community by providing access to information.

The library maintains a comprehensive print collection, as well as facilitating access to electronic resources. It also provides reference and interlibrary loan services and end-user training in database searching.

From 2025, primary care will have the same access to resources as hospitals. Check your Health Pathways site for links.

Interlibrary loan

There may be a charge if obtaining interloans from outside our network - usual charge is $15 but urgent requests may be $20 to $30. Most journal articles are supplied within 48 hours, and books within seven days.  For urgent clinical need same-day supply of journal articles is usually possible.

For postgraduate studies, please use the library of your tertiary provider as the first resource for material.

  • Librarians are available onsite to assist with advice, assistance, demonstrations, workshops and tutoring.
