Primary and community registered nurses are critical to delivering accessible care where it is needed most. Investment is being made in the primary and community healthcare nursing workforce by offering funding for employers to recruit graduate registered nurses, scholarships to registered nurses working in primary and community healthcare settings for postgraduate advanced practice nursing study and the Nurse Practitioner Training Support Scheme (NPTSS).
Funding for primary care employers to recruit graduate registered nurses works in partnership with the primary care and community sector to support graduate registered nurses into employment.
The Registered Nurse Primary Care Scholarship supports postgraduate study leading to a Postgraduate Diploma in Prescribing or towards Nurse Practitioner. The aim is to improve the availability of prescribing services in primary and community healthcare services.
The Nurse Practitioner Training Support Scheme (NPTSS) will offer tailored, wraparound support to registered nurses and employers throughout their practicum year and post-registration transition. Support will include mentoring, pastoral care, clinical placement coordination, employer engagement and structured support to safely embed the nurse practitioner role into primary care and community settings.
