Metrics on this page can use one of two views of the data - An operational view or a person view.
All data comes from the Aotearoa Immunisation Register (AIR). The operational view shows all doses administered in New Zealand. The person view shows the vaccination status of people regardless of how that was recorded or whether it was in New Zealand. Those who have been vaccinated overseas will only appear in the person view; they will not appear in the operational view. The person view includes all people that are currently alive and in AIR. On 12 June 2024, the estimated population was changed to be sourced from AIR instead of the most recent Health Service User (HSU).

Note some records are entered in the register at a later date than the immunisation was received. This means that the figures for a given date may move for some time after that date.
Adverse events following immunisations (AEFI)
Like all medicines, the COVID-19 vaccine may cause side effects in some people. These are common, are usually mild, don’t last long and won’t stop people from having the second dose or going about daily life. Serious allergic reactions do occur but are extremely rare.
Suspected AEFI to COVID-19 vaccines are reported to the Centre for Adverse Reactions Monitoring (CARM). While Medsafe no longer publishes their COVID-19 vaccine safety reports, they continue to monitor reports of adverse reactions submitted to CARM.
