A new Acute Mental Health Unit has been built, and it is now being prepared for use. The unit’s name, Ngā Wai Ngaro, refers to the sacred, unseen waters flowing beneath Papatūānuku - recognised by a Rangitāne kaumātua as a sign of natural flow and connection.
A long-term strategic solution to increase and improve hospital services. It is in the initial planning phase and will likely include a new acute services block and the re-lifting of the current clinical services block.
An interim solution to increase theatre and gastroenterology services, and to establish our first interventional cardiology catheterisation laboratory. This project was completed by the end of 2023.
