What the cadetship is
The cadetship is an 8-week programme designed to help you create a pathway into a career with Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora.
How the cadetship works
If you are selected for the cadetship, you will be buddied with one of our experienced staff in your chosen role for 30 paid hours per week.
The hours you will work are:
- 8:30am to 3pm, Monday to Friday — admin type roles
- 6:45am to 3:15pm, Monday to Thursday — healthcare assistant and clinical roles. Different hours and shifts will be discussed and required as you progress through the programme.
During that time some of the things you will receive are:
- wages paid at union rates
- a full 3-day induction to welcome you as a temporary staff member
- hands on experience working within your departmental team
- daily catch ups with your programme peer support buddy for the first few weeks of your training
- Aspire education group training every Monday morning
- a 2-day education workshop at the midpoint of the programme
- an opportunity for a new start and to develop highly desirable skills
- an opportunity to learn about the roles and teams onsite at the hospital
- long term or permanent job opportunities at Health NZ and community partners to help work towards a healthier Hawke's Bay community.
Monday afternoons are spent in a classroom environment so:
- Clinical Cadets can complete their Careerforce Level 2 — Health and Wellbeing
- Admin Cadets can work with Aspire tutors to increase their administration computer skills.
If you meet all the programme requirements and graduate at the end of the programme, we will encourage and assist you in applying for our job vacancies to enable you to gain stable employment.
