Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

Persistent Organic Pollutants are compounds that do not break down easily, and stay in the environment.
Whatu Tāniko pattern
  • Dioxins

    Health NZ monitors the health effects from dioxins and ensures adequate health care is available to those affected by dioxin exposure.
  • Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)

    Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) are a serious environmental pollutant. While they are banned here, small amounts still turn up.
  • Per-fluoroalkyl substances and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)

    PFAS are a large group of manufactured compounds. Some are persistent in the environment and in the human body.
  • Health support services

    Information about two health support services managed by Health New Zealand - the Sawmill Workers’ Service and the Dioxin Health Service.
