This guidance provides the health sector with clear, concise and consistent evidence-based information on the identification, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of tongue-tie in New Zealand.

A key reason for developing this guidance is to support a consistent and equitable approach to the assessment, diagnosis and surgical treatment of tongue-tie which will also support early breastfeeding, consistency and equity of service provision.

This guidance is applicable to all those health professionals involved in the assessment and surgical treatment of tongue-tied neonates, whether they are employed by District Health Boards or working privately in the community.
