Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s cardiology department is celebrating another step forward for patient care, with the commissioning of two state-of-the-art GE E95 cardiac ultrasound machines this week. These machines represent a significant investment in cardiac services for our region.

Referred to as the “gold standard” in cardiac ultrasound technology, the machines deliver exceptional image quality and advanced visualisation capabilities, helping cardiologists make faster and more accurate diagnoses. This will support ongoing efforts to reduce wait times and improve outcomes for cardiac patients across Hawke’s Bay.

The new equipment was secured through a regional purchasing agreement under Health New Zealand which allowed for substantial savings that wouldn’t have been possible as a standalone purchase. It’s a clear example of the advantages of working as a national health service and how this can directly benefit our communities.

With these additions, Hawke’s Bay now has a fleet of three top-tier machines, a portable unit to support patients in rural areas, and one lower-spec E95 that will eventually be upgraded.

Sym Gardiner, Medical Outpatient Operations Manager said the department has been working hard to drive improvements and the team were proud of the milestone.

“This investment will make a real difference to our ability to deliver timely, high-quality cardiac care.”
