Summary

HISO is supporting the Ministry of Health’s National Cervical Screening Programme in the development of a data standard to support cervical screening.

The National Cervical Screening Programme (NCSP) was established to identify instances of hrHPV infection and abnormal cancerous cell changes to the cervix so that participants with high-grade lesions can be treated, reducing their risk of developing cervical cancer.

From July 2023, testing for high-risk Human Papilloma Virus (hrHPV) will commence as the primary cervical screening test. To support this change, a new information technology solution will replace the existing NCSP Register.

The standard will identify the data and updated coding required to support the capture of cervical histology information in a consistent manner for submitting into the NCSP Register for monitoring and operating purposes.
