Health New Zealand is ensuring support is available for those impacted by the Manage My Health cybersecurity breach in Northland, recognising that a large number of those impacted are based in the area.

Alex Pimm, Group Director of Operations for Northland Te Tai Tokerau says Health NZ is working closely with GPs and PHOs to put in place funding that will allow GPs to provide consultation for those impacted by the breach that need to discuss their clinical information, and that mental wellbeing support is available as part of the ongoing support that Health NZ and primary care providers are providing to Manage My Health as they respond to their cyber breach.

Manage My Health is currently working to notify all those affected by the cyber breach, with the first notifications going out from Thursday of this week. Those who are impacted by the data breach will be provided with an 0800 number to call if they need additional support or have further queries. The 0800 number is available 8:30am-5pm, including over this weekend.

“Those impacted by the data breach who are experiencing distress and need support for their mental wellbeing can call the mental health helpline on 1737 any time for free. Face-to-face mental wellbeing services are also available through local GP clinic primary mental health services.  We also have specialist support through Hauora Māori services and youth services,” says Mr Pimm.

“Health NZ currently uses Manage My Health in Northland to enable patients to access some documents, such as their hospital discharge summaries, clinic letters, and referral notifications.

“This system allows consumers, with or without a primary care provider, to access this important information.

“While Health NZ's own data systems have not been compromised, any issue involving patient information is taken very seriously. Health NZ is working with Ministry of Health, DPMC, National Cyber Security Centre, and NZ Police, and we continue to actively support Manage My Health’s response.

“It’s really important that people continue to attend their appointments with health professionals and seek support with their health needs.”
