As of 12 December 2025, more than 83,000 current employees (representing nearly 93% of the current workforce) have been paid over $657m holidays act remediation payments for their current role.
Remediation work continues for the remaining payrolls. Current employees of Mid Central are expected to receive payment in February 2026, with current employees of Lakes and Whanganui to receive an interim payment scheduled for April-May 2026, subject to audits and assurances.
Payments to former employees has started and this month. Southern District paid over $6m to over 1,300 former employees and Tairāwhiti District paid $3.6m to over 450 former employees.
To date this means over $54m has been paid to over 13,000 former employees. Payments will continue in the New Year with a second tranche set to be paid in February 2026.
