The Hands Up database
The Hands Up Database is a searchable database of people that selected health and disability providers can search in order to fill any open roles they have.
There are paid clinical, non-clinical, support and non-contact roles available, so if you have the time, and want to be part of the COVID-19 response in any way, please register your interest below, and potential employers will be able to search your details and match you to a paid role based on your skill set and availability. If you would like to put yourself forward for clinical or non-clinical roles, please register your interest below.
As the COVID-19 response has progressed, the Hands up to join our immunisation teams registration form has been updated and opportunities may extend to roles beyond vaccination-related roles, such as clinical roles and care in the community support roles. Please fill out this form with as much information as you can.

Please note that registering your interest does not guarantee employment.
If you are successful, your training and induction are the responsibility of the DHB or contracted health provider who employs you. Depending on your role, the training could consist of a mix of online and face-to-face sessions.
If you are successful, the DHB or contracted health provider will be your employer and responsible for all employment-related statutory requirements. Standard reference and police checks will form part of the recruitment. The Ministry of Health is not involved in the employment process and registering your interest does not guarantee you employment.
There are a broad range of paid roles that we’re looking for people to put themselves forward for:
- Non-clinical and support roles – eg, home care and community support, observer and liaison roles.
- Clinical roles – eg, medical practitioners and ICU nurses.
- Non-contact – eg, administration and contact tracers.
The DHB or contracted health provider will assess your suitability based on your skills and experience.
When you register your interest, you’ll have the opportunity to specify how far you’re willing to travel for work and you can tell us the days and hours you can offer.
Depending on the role, you may be required to work shifts and/or after hours. This will be for the DHB and contracted health provider and yourself to agree.
The duration of your contract will be determined by the DHB or contracted health provider.
Expired annual practising certificates
The cost of reinstating annual practising certificates is at the discretion of the responsible authorities involved – we recommend you check with them. Depending on the expiration date, this may impact the roles you may be considered for.
When you register your interest we’ll collect your name, contact information, location, and information about your experience and qualifications in order to ensure that you are the right fit for one of the roles.
In registering your interest you agree to your details being used and shared by the Ministry of Health, DHBs, and contracted health care providers for the purposes of determining whether you fit any of the required roles. All those who have access to these details meet security privacy requirements.
