About the Artificial Eyes Subsidy

When a patient has their eyes removed, the first artificial eye is included in the cost of the surgery and is the responsibility of the hospital where the procedure is performed.

This artificial eye cannot be claimed for under this subsidy.

Only the supplier of the second artificial eye can claim this subsidy.

Payment

Payment will be made within 20 business days of receiving a valid claim.

 

How to make an Artificial Eyes Subsidy claim

Claims should be made to Sector Operations by the supplier, and accompanied by supporting receipts.

How much you can claim

These subsidy amounts take effect as of 1 July 2022.

Under 6 years

  • Full cost of the replacement (Approx $5000)
  • Not accrued, payable up to once every two years

Children 6–17 years

  • Full cost of the replacement (Approx $5000)
  • Not accrued, payable up to once every three years

Adults 18 years and over

  • $750 a year
  • Accrued annually from the time of the loss of the eye
