Healthcare and hospital services across the Auckland region are continuing to offer the highest-possible standard of care, despite heavy rain overnight.

“The safety of our staff, patients and whānau has remained our highest priority throughout this event and we acknowledge our teams who did an amazing job of putting our emergency plans in place to manage the effects of the extreme weather on our hospitals and various buildings across the Auckland area,” says Mark Shepherd, Regional Director of Hospital and Specialist Services - Northern.

“We can reassure everyone that we remain open and able to provide ongoing care to our communities. Our thanks also goes to everyone involved in the ongoing clean-up of areas impacted by the heavy rain on our various campuses. A small number of staff and patients have been safely relocated within a number of campuses for their comfort.

“We know many of our kaimahi will have been affected personally by this event and we trust that they and their families are safe. Many came in and kept services running and cared for each other,” Mr Shepherd says.

Anyone needing urgent or emergency care should continue to call 111.

For those with non-critical illnesses or injuries, there are other options available. For example, people can contact their GP or call Healthline (0800 611 116) for free health advice from a registered nurse. If your child or baby is unwell, you can call Plunketline 24/7 for advice on 0800 933 922.

Another option is to have a virtual consultation with a clinician. You can find a list of organisations who provide this service by searching for ‘telehealth’ at www.healthnavigator.org.nz
